    The importance of World Political Map



    A 'World Political Map' is something we all have studied in our school days. But, It would be a different experience to again have an overview of its uses and benefits through this blog.

    What is a Political Map?


    A political map represents political divisions, or human-created boundaries, of the world, continents, and major geographic regions. Some political maps cover entire continents, and others may represent a specific town or municipality.


    The World Map shows features of the region the map is focused on and is helpful in understanding how humans interact with the particular region. Those features are called political features and include physical and symbolic features.

    Some political features that are shown on political maps are:
    • Borders
    • Roads
    • Public transportation
    • Cities and towns
    • Bodies of water
    • Countries
    • Small regions

    Features of World Political Map


    Each feature of a World Political Map serves a different purpose and is important for understanding the region that the map is depicting. The table below gives additional information about each of the features are
    1. Borders- Borders on a political show are the invisible lines that mark different boundaries.
    2. Roads- Political maps depict the road networks in the area to which the map pertains.
    3. Public transportation- Some political maps show public transportation networks like subways, trains, ferries, and bus networks.
    4. Cities and towns- Political maps will show the location of towns and cities in the region.
    5. Bodies of water-bodies of water are usually naturally occurring as shown on political maps.
    6. Countries- Individual countries are the most common feature found on political maps that depict larger geographical areas.
    7. Smaller regions- Depending on the country that is being featured, a political map can also show the boundaries of small regions of the country.

    Merits of Earth Map
    1. The Map of the world depicts the different geographic borders and restricted areas of the world in the northern and southern zones.
    2. Data that depicts - nations, states, and towns, and the layout of water bodies shown on this map, is a major source of information for a country's government. It is released and updated each year in the atlas, with different colors indicating different countries and regions.
    3. It also defines the different aspects of highways, railways, and the network corridor that serves as a cultural network connecting various parts of the world.


    Demerits of Earth Map
    1. These maps are aimed to represent land owned or governed by government authorities.
    2. The projection of the map can be altered to exaggerate the size or volatility of certain nations.
    3. The map focuses less on topographic features and instead on the state and national boundaries.

    Conclusion
    A World Political Map differs from other types of maps as it focuses on government or administrative borders rather than geographical or physical features. It defines the abstract lines that divide nations, states, territories, and towns etc.

In context to geography the cities, states, rivers, forest etc are object and representation of these objects on a surface like on a piece of paper is called a map. With the help of Maps one can easily finds the area or the place which they are looking for.
