A24 and Peacock are headed to “Crystal Lake” for a small display enlargement of the Friday the thirteenth franchise, and the staff could have discovered their Mrs. Voorhees for the prequel sequence.
According to a report from Jeff Sneider over on The Insneider tonight, Linda Cardellini (“No Good Deed”) is in talks to play Jason’s mom within the upcoming “Crystal Lake” sequence.
Brad Caleb Kane (“Welcome to Derry”) is the showrunner for “Crystal Lake.”
Peacock had given the venture a straight-to-series order in 2022, with “Crystal Lake” being described as an “expanded prequel” to the unique Friday the thirteenth franchise that includes each Jason Voorhees and his mom, Pamela Voorhees. The venture’s unique showrunner was Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”), with Fuller’s departure resulting in a retooling of the sequence.
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” stated Caleb Kane in a latest assertion.
That assertion from final yr continued, “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday the 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
“Crystal Lake” will convey the Friday the thirteenth franchise again to life after 16 years of Jason Voorhees mendacity dormant on the backside of the lake resulting from messy authorized points over the rights.
Mrs. Voorhees was after all initially performed by the late Betsy Palmer.
